Senior Staff Engineer is a transition role for Staff Engineers who have mastered Staff-level KRAs and are showing clear, repeatable signals of Principal Engineer–level impact, such as program-level thinking, strong HLD ownership, broader client influence, or org-level technical contributions.
Senior Staff Engineers are evaluated against Principal Engineer KRAs, with the understanding that some areas may still be developing. This role exists to recognize readiness signals while providing space to build consistency at the next level of scope and leverage.
The expectation is that Senior Staff Engineers will progress to Principal Engineer within 12 months, supported by increased scope, mentorship, and leadership opportunities.
